Dutch artist, Laetitia Molenaar claims her main artistic inspiration, Edward Hopper, not only as an inspiration but as a challenge. In her series Here Comes the Sun, she transforms his paintings into photographs, his settings into three-dimensional cardboard miniatures where she inserts tiny electric bulbs. She then lights her models with a huge floodlight and put the whole thing together. Magically she relates to his so peculiar atmosphere where people are painted as inanimate things in still lifes The feeling is strange, both a simulation and an updating for her characters never try to imitate any vintage style. All the more striking.
