To those to whom Contempt by Jean-Luc Godard means a lot, this picture will surely remind of two words, so intensely related to the movie : inadvertence and catastophy, repeatedly said by the characters’ voices and somehow echoing to the inaugural warning of a husband loving his wife totally, tenderly, tragically. There’s an arrogance in the way Bardot lies softly on this both innocent and animal carpet,  a pride in her lioness-like attitude standing for what happiness used to be. Splendid and sad.
