February 2013

We already know a great deal about Rose Kennedy. That she was born a Bostonian and a devout Irish Catholic. That she went through her husband's affairs among which the famous one with movie star Gloria Swanson. That she kept careful records of all her nine children on index cards to remember each one’s physical condition (weight, shoe size etc.). That she watched them live and die, for only one outlived her. But did you know that when her son John died, she asked French designer Hubert de Givenchy for a dress on which her pearls should be covered and when he asked her why, she just answered: "I want to make sure that when I embrace the coffin of my son, that my pearls don't make noise." Comments usually insist on her cynical control freak attitude for the clinging pearls might disturb TV broadcasting but it might just bring up her tragical training, JFK being the third child she had to mourn. Well, okay it's still weird…
