In the Greek and Roman pantheons, gods and goddesses have free sex, countless flings, affairs and love stories. Polytheistic pagan religions have no sexual taboos and no idea of sin. While watching the Oscars last night, some analogy came across my mind: actors and actresses are like pagan gods to us. What we worship about them isn't only the way they look, perform and do their jobs. It has much more to do with second thoughts like "Gosh, she had an affair with Ben A. Ethan H. or George C.", " He's been married for times", "This guy has seven kids", that is sexual freedom, moral impunity, big numbers, easy paying alimonies. As I watched them sliding on red carpets, they remind me of Zeus, Aphrodite, Leda and all their debauched fellow gods.
