What is so moving about the Italian Primitive painters of the Quattrocento is that they were so modern without their knowing. Look at this Fra Angelico, spot the colors, watch the tint areas on the walls, the floors, the blanket. How could he know that six centuries later Nicolas de Staël, Mark Rothko or Yves Klein would be challenging painters because of their monochromatic touch ? How could he know Avant-garde fashion designers would promote the trend as new ? Did Fra Angelico share with all of them the same delighful feeling of intensity pure color inspires ? Let’s bet he did.
