It started with 1970s rock stars such as Lou Reed, Iggy Pop or David Bowie. Berlin was then a city of pain Western heroes wanted both to celebrate and heal. Berlin was then a black and white city where unhealthy skinny young people wandered through sleepless nights and drug hallucinations. Berlin was then so special because of its World War II scars, its Cold War barbwires, its grieving wall. But then in 1989, the wall fell. More than two decades later, fashion designers like Hedi Slimane or Raf Simons are still obsessed with Berlin though it's turned into a big green healthy city full of push chairs and bikes.
