Photography

Mulas, Ugo (1928 - 1973)

Settled in Milan, in 1948, Ugo Mulas rapidly photographs the city while he frequents its art and literary scenes. The Venice Biennale’s official photographer from 1954, he documents the Italian and American art scene, observing novelty and the relationship of artists with their work. Thus the Italian photographer intensely captures Marcel Duchamp’s ironic and complex vision in front of his past creations or Lucio Fontana’s reflection before the final cutting alongside a playful mise-en-abîme featuring Roy Lichtenstein in front of one of his pop paintings. Not only documentary, Ugo Mulas’ photographs are also strongly autobiographical and intimate.
