Seeley, George H. (1880 - 1955)

Studying painting and drawing in Boston, it is after meeting the Pictorialist, Fred Holland Day, that George H. Seeley turned to photography and exhibited his work at the First American Photographic Salon, in New York, in 1904.  Alfred Stieglitz who appreciated the work of the American photographer invited him to join Photo-Secession - making him the youngest member of the group -where he remained for six years exhibiting and publishing tender and refined symbolist-like images. George H Seeley mingled his foggy landscapes to evanescent feminine figures when he studied numerous still lives. In his late years, he abandoned photography for oil painting, thus returning to what had originally influenced his picturesque photographs.
