2. English Regency (1800-1830)

George IV (1762-1830) acted as Prince Regent from 1811 to 1820, a period that gave its name to the decorative style developed in England at the time. Classical furniture was inspired by Roman and Greek structural and ornamental elements. Variations in the Regency period also produced a resurgence of Chinese, Japanese and Indian themes, highly visible at Brighton's Royal Pavilion.
