The Finnish-born American designer and architect, ingenuously refused to be identified by a unique recognisable style like most of his peers. On the contrary, he invented new vocabularies for each product, adapting himself to his clients' demands. Refusing simplistic and abstract architectures, he favoured ostentatious effects. However his furniture featured unpretentious forms blending organic and technological inspirations. 'The purpose of architecture is to shelter and enhance man's life on earth and to fulfil his belief in the nobility of his existence.'
