n°139/ The Carters for President

September 2014

Pop stars are usually single, divorced, remarried and at the end, family life-free because, as you may know, family life stands in the way of a wild winning over sexuality. Except for the Carters, that is Beyoncé and Jay-Z. On the final night of their On The Run tour in Paris, we attended both a pop concert and some kind of massive electoral meeting of two black rich and glamorous candidates reembodying the American dream, up to the flag-like dress the lady was smoothly waving while dancing, up to her pregnant naked body that might have stood for a second pregnancy announcement. A six-minute video shot like a slow-mo saga in between the Kennedys' and the Obamas' and showing us how happy and successful those two are at home, on their wedding day, on vacation, in bed, everywhere. Show business is definitely politics.
