n°216/ Extravaganza!

March 2016

by Nathalie Azoulai

Just start to say the Velvet… and you trigger at once one’s imagination regarding sex, drugs and rock’n’roll. Named after a contemporary mass paperback about the secret sexual subculture of the early 1960s, the band appeared as the only strong American (East Coast) alternative to what British Rolling Stones created : a stage full of night visions of New York, magnetic male figures such as Lou Reed, John Cale or Andy Warhol, surrounding a stunning female blond beauty Nico. What a better distribution to grow a muse myth or a polyandrous phenomenon (that is one single woman for several men) ? The first retrospective on this glam extravaganza will take place at the Paris Philarmonie from March 30 to August 21. Take a walk on the wild side
