You might not remember the 1946 Postman Always Rings Twice, directed by Tay Garnett, but if you happen to watch it again, you might be struck by the amazing costumes designed for young Cora. First of all, she almost exclusively wears white throughout the film, as if clothes on her body could balance the very dark bottom of her soul. Secondly, such a whiteness- Marco Ferreri will remember it much later in 1972 Liza-causes a dazzling confusion that fuels the dramatic tension of this film noir. And last but not least, putting Lana Turner in scandalous high-waist shorts with a midriff-baring top, new M.G.M. head of costume design Irene Lentz, who just took over after Adrian left the studios, knew how to make an entrance…
