Artists usually start from it or come to it, as an easy training or a narcissistic temptation they finally give in to. But a self-portrait is hardly simple and requires some kind of tricky setting, like mirrors, weird objects or physical contortions. Artists seldom pause still and like to surround themselves with things, animals or people. Which is quite paradoxical for it leads to Self-Portraits with…or even more, to Self-Portraits after…So what does it mean to pause with someone else and call it yourself? Could your self welcome a stranger? Could you share the same self with somebody? Do you always need to have someone famous around you to be worth it? Our recently launched Self-Portraits section brings up many philosophical questions that can make you feel dizzy……
