n°63/ This is Storytelling

April 2013

If you still had doubts about what storytelling is, just have a look at Hungarian young artist Bence Hajdu's work. Let's take his Last Supper after Leonardo da Vinci. Jesus and the apostles left, but the table haven't' been cleared off yet. Asked to work on Renaissance perspective, Hajdu had this funny idea to erase all characters and to offer abandoned scenes. And suddenly what was the whole picture about becomes much more acute. It's not only about Judas betraying the Christ, it's about the Christ and his guys deceiving human belief and leaving men forsaken. The whole universe suddenly loses its transcendence and God no more exists anywhere. It's all human, all too human, as Nietzsche would have put it up. It's just another empty house in which people might be expected for lunch-or not. Who knows? Who cares?
