What first attracts the eye in Lars Tunbjörk’s photographs is the color, the bright, intense tones that almost assault us. The Swedish photographer questions our world by highlighting what can make it absurd, suffocating and dehumanizing. With an often cynical and acid manner, he depicts suburban locations and offices where everything repeats itself: same cars, same houses, same furniture,…and an exhausting working routine. Through Lars Tunbjörk’s eyes, even our leisures seem ridicule: sunbathing, shopping or swimming become the tragic components of a nightmare. Yet, the photographer’s work is never pessimistic - funny and appalling at the same time, he acts in the same way as Martin Parr, he uses humour to reveal the pathetic.
