The Finnish designer and architect was a fervent devotee to functionalism and organic lines. Dissociating himself from his rationalist contemporaries, he rejected steel and glass and conceived buildings that blended with harmony, in the natural environment. His objects and furniture also follow this quintessential relationship between man and nature and feature fluid and rhythmic shapes. 'The ultimate goal of the architect...is to create a paradise. Every house, every product of architecture... should be a fruit of our endeavour to build an earthly paradise for people.'
