Furniture Design

Bellini, Mario (1935)

The Italian designer who trained as an architect, was hired as consultant for the company Olivetti, in 1963. The brand gave Bellini much freedom and the designer created his own vocabulary for technological design that was emerging post-war. His furniture design is characterized by its organic curvaceous forms and the use of rich materials that, nevertheless, were mass-produced. Mario Bellini refuses 'the easy formula, 'design follows function'. The shape of an object must relate to its symbolic function.
