Furniture Design

Caillette, René-Jean (1919 - 2005)

The son of a cabinetmaker, the French designer epitomized the production of quality mass furniture. Fuelled by compassionate feelings (he donated his estate to a charity at his death), he wanted modern design to be accessible to everyone and therefore redrew modest homes' characteristic furniture with new lines as well as functional and solid shapes. His radical and sharp creations depict a simple, rigorous yet elegant furniture. 'I consider design to be wanted, determined, thoughtful and assertive.'
