The British designer learned the technique of knitting from an early age before studying at the Royal College of Art, where, during the graduation show, he would attract the attention of Karl Lagerfeld who would appoint him as Head Designer for Knitwear at Chanel, in 1996. In 1998, Julien MacDonald launched his own eponymous brand and also served as Givenchy’s chief designer in 2000. The fashion designer provided England with a glamorous glittery brand that is never afraid to show too much skin and bling. With feminine, romantic and gothic silhouettes, he draws an expressive sensuality thanks to the cuts of his garments and the choice of sexy materials. Having conquered the red carpet with his luxurious gowns, Julien MacDonald has now conquered pop culture and television, having become a judge for the reality show, Britain’s Next Top Model.
