The Barrymore family turned into an acting dynasty when it established the profession as a household tradition from the late 18th century. From the 20th century, major figures distinguished themselves such as Ethel Barrymore who earned an Oscar and Lionel Barrymore, remembered for his role in Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life, in 1946. Such a famous clan that it saw its life portrayed on Broadway stages in 1927, in a play entitled The Royal Family. The third sibling, John Barrymore, the ‘Great Profile', inaugurated the family’s dark direction - an alcoholic, his children Diana and John Jr themselves faced dramatic addictions. John Jr’s daughter, Drew Barrymore did not escape the family fate: she inherited from an early age its great talent alongside its demons. Although the cute child star of E.T, Drew Barrymore was heavily drinking and doing drugs before her adolescence. Yet, as an adult, having become a successful director and producer, the actress has conquered her torments and installed the Barrymore name into dignity again.
